Procedures: Laparoscopic Sterilisation

This procedure is considered a non-reversible form of contraception and as such should only be performed when a women is certain she has finished her family. It involves laparoscopy (as for diagnostic laparoscopy) and placing a permanent clip on each of the fallopian tubes. It is a day case operation.

It is important that you know it still can fail although this is rare (1 per 1000), it has no effect on your period, but if you were using a contraceptive method that did and you liked that benefit you need to seriously consider if this is the right thing for you as your periods will go back to what they were like before that contraceptive method. Although you may be aware that some women are able to get pregnant after a reversal of sterilisation procedure there is no guarantee that this will be possible for all women.
